When a Lake McDonald Sunset is THE Spot

There’s something inherently magical about Glacier National Park, but even more so when you’re celebrating the anniversary of your love. As your local Montana photographer, I’m always more than thrilled to tell your story! Olivia and Britt’s Lake McDonald sunset anniversary session in Glacier National Park was nothing short of breathtaking.

Lake McDonald is historically a really popular location in Glacier since it’s the first destination you hit when driving in from the west side. Even as the sun dips, there might be a handful of people present, but everyone is there for the same reason: to enjoy the beauty and stillness of Lake McDonald!

The light is always beautiful here, and compared to what it looks like during sunrise, you can’t go wrong with either.

We arrived a little early, giving us time to sit by the water and chat before the shoot began. It was clear from the start—these two are easy to be around. Conversation flowed effortlessly, and before we knew it, we were laughing our way through the entire session.

As the sun dipped lower, it bathed Lake McDonald in the most beautiful golden light, making everything feel warm and dreamy. Then, as blue hour set in, the mountains transformed into a stunning gradient of deep blues and purples, reflecting perfectly on the still water. It was the kind of evening that reminds me why I love capturing love stories in Glacier.
